Crucible's Rhyme

We've established you are not anything from conception on.

So what makes you you?

You could easily state, "I am a child of God." And that would be true. You are a child of God and you will continue to be a child of God throughout the eternities. But you were before you were a child of God.

I realize that sounds like like blasphemy. Note the Pearl of Great Price.

Before you had a spirit body you were something else. We have don't really have a grasp of what it is, but we have a word: intelligences. We are referred to as intelligences before we were spirit children of our Heavenly Father. So we existed before we even had a spiritual body. Our previous argument showed that since we existed before these physical bodies we are not defined or dictated by anything in this mortal realm. By analog we can assume that because we existed before we had our spirit bodies than nothing from the spiritual realm defines or dictates us.

So when was our creation? When was the moment that dictated who were are and set the course for the rest of our existence?

Abraham 3:18 "Howbeit that he made the greater star; as, also, if there be two spirits, and one shall be more intelligent than the other, yet these two spirits, notwithstanding one is more intelligent than the other, have no beginning; they existed before, they shall have no end, they shall exist after, for they are gnolaum, or eternal.

Abraham 3:22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;

As far as I can tell, there is no creation for us. Heavenly Father took us while we existed and organized us. We followed Him and became His spirit children. I can see references to Heavenly Father creating our spiritual bodies and creating our physical bodies, but I'm not thinking that God created us. I think before we were His children in our spiritual manifestations we existed as something called intelligences. We had always existed and always will exist. There was a creation of this world, a creation of our spiritual and physical sepulchers, but no creation of us.

What is an intelligence? I'm not sure. We've ripped out everything from our physical and spiritual lives, which makes you think: what's left? This is what I think. I think intelligences are potential. Or rather the ability to choose.

We aren't our choices. Let me set that straight. There is a difference between choosing and choices. The things we have done or will do have absolutely no bearing on who we are and what defines us. We are simply the ability to choose. The first choice we made of any consequence was to follow Heavenly Father and become His children. God didn't create us, we just chose to be a part of His creations and partake in the Glory that He has. We chose to follow Him, because that's what we are: the ability to choose. God gave merit to that choice. He had the ability to allow a consequence of our decisions, and it was the first time we had consequences.

You see. We aren't the ability to act. That was given to us. So before Heavenly Father gave us that blessed gift, all we could do was choose. When you can't act on your choices there are no consequences. When there are no consequences things don't really happen. But you still have the ability to choose. And as long as you retain that, you exist. And no one can take that away from you.

They can bribe you, then can beat you, they can threaten you, they can even physically manipulate your body. The thing they can never do is remove your freedom of choice. They may be making your body do one thing, but you could be choosing another. Since we are not our actions or our choices, but merely the ability to choose, we exist in such situations.

This is agency.

Careful--
First of all you're going too far and making assertions about things we don't know for sure. There are most likely a ton of details we don't have--we don't know if it's possible for intelligences to choose or not. And we don't know that choosing to follow our Heavenly Father is the first choice we ever made. It's possible that intelligences--even in a state pre-organization--have the capacity for choice. And if that were the case, then it is just as likely as not that we made other choices before choosing to follow Heavenly Father.
Second of all Heavenly Father does not "allow consequence"--I believe that He has the ABILITY to do so, but we believe that God is God because He keeps laws that are an inherent part of existence. And if He did not conduct Himself in accordance with those laws then He would cease to be God. This means that consequence does not come from God allowing it or disallowing it. Instead, consequence is the natural result of the choices we make.
