Reason: He has an amazing story. He came out of nowhere. We know nothing about him. The Book of Mormon is all about genealogy. Almost no one is introduced without knowing who his father is. Abinadi is different. We don't even know if he were a Nephite. He could've been a Lamanite or from another tribe. The only thing we really know is he was humble enough to listen to the Lord and obdient enough to follow even though it led to his .
Abinadi shows in King Noah's city. He preaches. He gets threatened. He gets kicked out. He comes back. He preaches. He is imprisoned. He testifies. He burns to .
Or rather that's all Abinadi saw. That's why I love Abinadi more than any other. He never got to see the fruits of his labors. Nephi got the brass plates, saw the land promised to his family, recieved visions and blessings. King Mosiah saw his people live righteously and go foward without a king. Alma the Elder saw the conversion of Alma the Younger after what must have been years of quietly loving his rebellious son. Everyone seemed to live rightously and they witnessed what all of their actions accumulated to.
Not Abinadi. He converted someone as he testified of Christ's coming. He touched Alma the Elder's heart. Alma went out to become one of the greatest missionaries. He handled the scriptures and passed them on to his son when the time was right. Then Alma the Younger passed them on to his son, and so on and so on. The Book of Mormon, in a sense, is record of Alma's family, the great instigators and conservors of the Book of Mormon. And all this occured because of one person who never was allowed to see what came from his sacrifice.
That is why I love Abinadi's story. He is a testament to the great we can do even when we feel as though we are failing. Just because we don't know the good we've done, doesn't mean there wasn't good done.
This is what I meant when I was saying knowledge is irreleveant. It doesn't make a difference. And in this case, it's true. Abinadi never knew that his testimony would be the formation of scripture that would be revealed in these latter days to help the whole world. He never knew because he was before any of it took place. But just because he didn't know doesn't mean it didn't happen. There are temples that dot the earth that attest to this. There are millions of members who now know the fullness of the gospel who know that he achieved greatness. As for him. He knew none of this. All he knew was that he was kept alive long enough to preach, and when he was finished, God allowed him to return into his presence.
Imagine the things you'll never know you've accomplished.
Why I am so opinionated.
Reason: Because I'm right and people need to learn this.
Why I wrote "Korean Prospects: 1"
Reason: I have made a friend. Second day of my Advance Molecular Biology class I walked in late. The only seats left were in the front row, so I grabbed one and sat down, uncomfortably close to the professor who just stared at me as I settled in. A few minutes later, a walked in. Realized the only seats left were in the front row so she sat down by me. We remained silent for the remainder of class because we were going over crazy mind boggling stuff like PCR, DNA Vector Cloning, Souther/Northern/Wester Blotting, Gel Electrophoresis and the like.
Toward the end of class I saw her pencil case. It was a plush kitten that had its arms wrapped around the pencils. Velcro was strategically placed on its paws to keep the hands together. I commented on it, saying I'd never seen a pencil case like that. She said there were tons of stuff like that back in Korea, her home, and introduced herself as Suzie (her real name is Su Jhi). I introduced myself as Ryan. We went our separate ways. A few hours later we saw each other again, this time in the aptly named Selected Readings in Molecular Biology class.
We have two classes together. That's rare for me, but that's because I took all of my classes out of order. We've stuck together in those two classes because everyone else are a bunch of nerds.
So that's why.
Why I am majoring in Molecular Biology
Reason: It's a very interesting field. The thing that appeals to me about it, is that it requires a paradigm shift to even comprehend. You're dealing with tiny tiny things. Things pratically too small to fathom. Things are working with purpose and yet it is essentially all random. Proteins and membranes can't choose. They aren't life, they are what constitute life. It's very hard to people to think of things that are so ordered that aren't dictated.
And the Paradoxes. I love the paradoxes. Most people can't handle them. In most minds everything is one way or the other. There is no either/or. But that's what nature is. It openly contradicts itself constantly. This drives most people insane, but I love that there is so much that we don't know. I love thinking that there is a new Everest to climb, a new continent to explore, a new moon to discover. I can very easily admit that we humans don't understand everything at this moment. That there are things that we don't understand, and most likely, things that we can't understand in this life. I love the exploration of it.
And then once we start understanding it we can then start manipulating it. We can change and create. And I think creation is one of the greatest joys of this life.
After saying all that I'm not sure if it constitutes a "reason". Whatevs.
Why I changed my playlist songs
Reason: Despite how much I fight it, Christmas can't be year round.
Why I still haven't watched Muppets Christmas Carol
Reason: I don't really know. I guess I just didn't want to watch it alone, and So Young wasn't an option. If anyone has got a cute cousin/niece (Campbell, I'm looking at you)/roommate/etc/etc and they want to watch an out of season Muppets movie, lemme know.
Why I punched that one kitten
Reason: I totally didn't. Someone's been lying to you.
Why I have not one, not two, but four new smiley faces (of the same smile no less) on my blog
Reason: Because its the best smiley face ever. You should see the background of my computer.
