He hurried down the steps. The time had passed and the moment of change occurred. He thought of the progression made and the lives met and couldn't help but smile in the warmth of the auburn sky. Life had been amazing; a whirl-wind of chaotic happenstance: the right people came and the right events occurred. It originally pained him to leave behind that life, but the tears had already been spent and he was looking forward to the future and all that could be done with the unknown.
He was at the bottom step when he heard a familiar voice, "Wait!". He turned and she was there; Her.
"Where do you think you're going?" With a few calculated bounds, she joined him at the bottom step. "You can't just walk away! There's too much happening. There are still things going on."
He concluded the final step and continued his walk, enjoying the final rays of the setting sun. He waited until his peripheral vision informed him that she had caught up with him. Only then did he respond. "Where do you think I'm walking to?"
She jumped ahead of him and her stern stare demanded a halt. "No," she said with finality. "You can't just leave. You've invested too much. Go back. You need to say your goodbyes at the very least."
He respected her stare and remained stationary, though it wasn't with a stare that he reciprocated. He looked back with a peaceful gaze, a gaze earned and deserved from the peacefulness of accomplishment and worn at the edges by an exhaustion received in an honest and earnest pursuit. "I said my goodbyes. It's over." Her stare softened and he quietly stepped past her.
He was only a few steps ahead when he heard her voice. "I saw how much it meant to you. I saw the laughter and the tears. How can you just callously walk away?"
Without slowing down he raised his hand and waved over his back so she'd know her words were heard. He thought of all that had occurred. He realized he wasn't walking away from anything; there was nothing left to walk away from. As the last rays of the sun shone over the horizon, he smiled. There was nothing he was walking away from and nothing he was walking towards. For the time being he was simply walking - and he liked that.

Don't worry if you don't understand this. Neither do I. I wrote this at four in the morning after a very interesting (and vivid) dream. As far as I can tell this is simply a stream of conscious. If you find something, let me know. I would love to know what this means. :)
